Transformer expansion tanks are increasingly equipped with sealing systems to protect the transformers against detrimental atmospheric influences (moisture, oxygen).
These separator systems are comprised of either membranes or bags, made of flexible material to separate the oil inside the transformer from the external atmosphere. The life span of such separator systems is normally between 10 and 15 years.
The design of the expansion system normally requires adaptation of the system to the hermetic seal, which translates into relatively high costs as the entire expansion system will have to be replaced. Virtual systems on the other hand can be installed without any need for design modifications, usually during a brief down-time.
Their effect meets all traditional requirements. Wear & tear and the need for additional maintenance and/or monitoring are a thing of the past. The system is particularly suitable for retrofitting.
